Hydraulic Flashboards and hardware
Close-up of water flow. Notice how the waters surface is not interrupted until it is 1/4 of the way over the falls. If it weren't for the leaks in the flashboards it would probalby remained smooth until 1/2 way down.
Anti bad guy bars.
A bit clearer view of the flashboard hardware.
Low water drain and skimmer gates. The gate on the left is a skimmer gate that is used to skim floating trash.
Other side view of gates with the skimmer gate on th right.
The city now owns the gatehous and uses it for storage. That is why the windows are now blocked off.
Door on gatehouse
River bottom. Just a bit of river eye candy for modelers. There was a wood cribbed dam at this location that fed water to the Johnston Mfg. Company that used to stand to the left of this shot.
Early morning light shining through the water.
close up of light leaking.
Concrete penstock. There are two control gates pictured. Just in front at teh bottom of the picture is the standpipe. The stand pipe is a safety devie to keep air from being trapped in the pentock.
Automatic trash rake cleaner. I have footage of it working, although it's rather boring. Almost as bad as watching water boil.
Close up of bricked up window. leaving the steal frames in place is an interesting detail.
What causes the pretty veils, is not as pretty. Well, atleast not to my wife.
Backside view of the flashboards.
An armada of thrill-seekers? No, just barrels to prevent the unknowing that they are about to go over a dam.
Close up of some water action.
Close up of weeds in the water.
Concrete penstock changes over to steel pressure casing. The two Kaplan turbines are mounted within the concrete box that the penstocks enter.
